Early morning visitor

It was just beginning to get light this morning when I noticed movement out of the corner of my eye. I didn't have on my glasses, but I saw something brownish that wasn't normally there outside my window. So I picked up my trusty camera that is always at the ready and zoomed in on said brownish thing.

It's a little screech owl. It couldn't have been more than about 7" or 8" tall. The owl stayed around for about 10 minutes, moving to a few different limbs before it left to go find its sleeping perch for the day. This is the first time I've seen a screech owl here. If I had been out on the balcony, I could've reached out my hand and touched it. It was that close. I didn't notice any tufts on this owl, so I'm guessing it is a young one. And I'm wondering if the owl is why I haven't seen quite so many squirrels the last couple of days. Hmmmm.

I'm always excited about the different kinds of birds we see living here in town, even if our house is in the woods.

Becky.....he is so cute. We had an Owl hanging around our Crabapple trees last month. I can't see him now b/c the tree is full of leaves so maybe he's still there.
We have a lot of bird's in my backyard due to the crabapple trees...... lots of Red Cardinals and especially those big Blue Jays.

Thanks for sharing your photo:-)

Becky, An amazing photo of the screech owl. I have never seen one in our area but I know they are here. An unusual siting for sure. I have seen other varities of owls but never close enough to take a photo. I thoroughly enjoyed your post and thank you for visiting my blog. I don't post often but do when I can.

He was cute. Glad you ladies liked the photos.

Erica, hope you are feeling better.

Carolyn, I hope you will soon be able to take a deep breath and relax.

What good fortune and how great you were able to capture him on camera. His presence probably explains the smaller number of squirrels that you see now. If you have small cats beware. It's so good to know that you are feeling better. It's been a rough two years for you. We continue to think of you. Have a great day. Blessings...Mary

Mary, thank you so much! No pets right now, but hopefully the docs will OK me for pets again sometime in the next 4 years.

It was pretty cool being able to catch the owl with my camera! I was glad he stayed around long enough for me to get a few shots.

The owl is so cute. There is one lurking in our backyard too moving from tree to tree. Most of the time, I only hear him hooting but caught him one time and blogged about him but he was still way up on our tall oak tree. The other day, he was so close (and he's huge when he is close) and I ran in the house to grab my camera but he flew away as I came out. We have an eagle too that I still have to catch on camera....Christine

I love owls too, and it would be so exciting to have them in your own backyard.
