Thursday evening health update

Today there was good news and there was bad news. My neutrophils went up from 0.1 to 0.3. That means I am producing some white cells. Yea!!! My platelets were down to 3. That ties my lowest ever. I had to get a transfusion of platelets today. There is a shortage, so I had to wait several hours to get them. I'm grateful they found some for me. Because my platelets were so low they started me on another shot called Neumega. This is supposed to help platelet production. This is in addition to the Neupogen I'm getting to stimulate the white count. I go back tomorrow to get these two shots again, and then I go get them again on Saturday. On Monday I have an appointment with the doc again and will have lab work done. If the counts look OK, I will start Dacogen on Monday. If not, it will have to be delayed again.

Also tomorrow, my Mom has to have back surgery. She has another disc with compression fracture that is causing her a good bit of pain in her back and hip. The surgery is scheduled for 11:00am. My sister will be with her.

Please keep both my Mom and me in your good thoughts and prayers.
